K9 Medical

Blackrole K9, in conjunction with Dr. Lee Palmer DVM, MS, DACVECC, NRP, EMT-T, WEMT, CCRP, TP-C (LTC, ALARNG, 20TH SFG), Dr. Garnett Hall BVSc and Dr. Chris Gleeson, have developed the Blackrole K9 Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (K9-TECC) Course to provide Operational K9 Handlers with current, best practice k9 first aid training that allows them to administer the appropriate and timely prehospital care to an injured k9, at home or in the field.

K9 Handlers are the ‘first responders’ for their injured k9’s operationally or in training. Generally, there is very little to no training provided in basic k9 first aid, let alone emergency trauma care.

In order to provide the most valuable and realistic training, we combine theory with practical training, using the most realistic k9 training aids on the market from TraumaFX.

‘K9 Diesel and K9 Hero’ are the most Advanced K9 Medical Trainer developed to date. They are full body k9 simulators that breathe, actively bark and have over 28 different features and medical intervention sites. All training sites are designed to replicate the look, feel and function of actual medical procedures.

Dr Lee Palmer

DVM, MS, DACVECC, NRP, EMT-T, WEMT, CCRP, TP-C

(LTC, ALARNG, 20TH SFG) is a US Veterinarian and Paramedic who was the founding member of the K9-TECC working group, established in 2014, intended to provide best practice prehospital care guidelines for injured operational k9’s in the line of duty.

The K9-TECC working group extracts available evidence-based medicine, lessons learned from MWD combat casualties, and end-user experience from operational handlers to develop best practice recommendations for out-of-hospital care for injured operational k9’s. K9-TECC principles focus on interventions that eliminate the major preventable causes of death and that are affordable, sustainable, and require minimal training and resources.
